Pennsylvania Hazardous Roadway Accidents
Citizens of Pennsylvania are in car accidents every day. Many of those same PA auto accidents are the result of negligence, most often that of another driver. But not all of these accidents are caused by the other driver, in some instances; the very road that you are driving on is inherently dangerous. Adverse road conditions are not your fault, and shouldn’t be your responsibility. In fact, when a municipality has neglected a stretch of road that it knows to be dangerous, they may be responsible for compensating auto accident victims for their expenses stemming from the accident.
It is true that it is our responsibility to drive safely at all times, but dangerous road conditions are ultimately the responsibility of construction crews or municipal organizations that are charged with maintaining the road. Negligence on the part of those who are supposed to keep us safe can lead to a variety of dangerous road conditions, such as:
- Potholes
- Obstructed traffic signs
- Construction refuse
- Unsigned curves
- Overgrown trees and other plant life
- Uneven paved roads
It is true that some dangerous road conditions are more obvious than others. Collisions that are caused by materials left over by construction crews are an example of an obvious condition. These conditions are often times in plain view and are more easily avoided than other, more discrete, conditions. Hazards like improper repair of roads or failure to remove natural obstructions after events like landslides, fallen trees, power lines, inclement weather conditions, or other debris that has fallen on roads can all create the worst of conditions for drivers.
Obscured traffic signs are another danger on Pennsylvania highways. If a sign posting a traffic command is not in 100% plain view, then motorists are not being provided every available chance to be safe. Under ideal conditions, a motorist needs only to adhere to the rules of the road, and hope that all other motorists do the same. However, improper signage puts everyone on the road at risk. Shrubbery that has grown unwieldy and obscures the view of traffic signs can put innocent drivers in harm’s way.
Poorly kept roads and highways can create dangerous driving conditions, and can cause personal injury or even death if the proper precautions are not taken to correct them. All it takes is for one person to be affected by a dangerous road condition, and that one person may end up injuring numerous people in a multi-car crash. If you feel as though you have been injured as the result of dangerous road conditions, conditions that could have very well been corrected by the governing body in your town or city, then please contact the Philadelphia dangerous road condition attorneys at Cherry Injury Law.
