Brain Injured Boy Slowly Recovering

Brain injuries can be catastrophic events. While the body and brain have an amazing ability to heal themselves over time, many times the recovery is a slow, painful process and victims of a traumatic brain injury do not always completely recover.

As an example, a 14-year-old boy was involved in a car accident with his family and he suffered several traumatic brain injuries as a result. They were traveling on a highway when their vehicle was rear-ended.

The accident took place in March of this year. However, this young boy has only just been released from the hospital after a six month stay.

In this case, the traumatic brain injuries that he suffered were so severe that at the time his family and doctors were not even sure whether he would survive the accident. His health did improve slowly over the past six months so that he was finally cleared to go home just recently. Residents of his home town were present to welcome him home and give him and his family support and love after this life-altering event.

This does not mean, however, that he is completely recovered. The reality is that though he no longer needs to stay in the hospital, he still cannot walk and his speech is limited.

The hope is that his brain will continue to heal and that he will continue to make milestones in his recovery. However, overcoming the obstacles that anyone who suffers a TBI will face requires strength and courage because it is a long and difficult road.
