Family Seeks Justice After Philadelphia Fatal Car Accident

The children of a Philadelphia man who was recently killed in a suspected drunk driving accident are calling for justice. The motor vehicle accident occurred on the evening of Sept. 14 in Northeast Philadelphia and involved an off-duty police officer.

Apparently, the 55-year-old accident victim was traveling down Ashburner Street, approaching a flashing red light, while the 54-year-old off-duty officer was traveling down State Road, approaching a flashing yellow light. The two vehicles collided at the intersection.

The accident victim died three days later at a local hospital. The off-duty officer sustained injuries, but is expected to recover. The District Attorney’s Office is reportedly considering whether charges should be filed against him.

The accident victim’s three daughters say that they are outraged that charges have not yet been filed in the wake of the accident, as it was reported that the off-duty officer had spent time at Maggie’s Restaurant and Bar shortly before the accident. However, law enforcement officials have not said whether the officer was drinking.

He apparently took a blood-alcohol test, but the results have not been released. In the meantime, the accident victim’s family has hired a private investigator to look into the crash, convinced that the police force is attempting to cover up foul play.

Unfortunately, we cannot always depend on the investigations of law enforcement to determine how and why an accident took place. That is why experienced personal injury lawyers often hire experts to conduct their own investigations, especially after a fatal accident.

In wrongful death cases, the right evidence can make all of the difference.
