Philadelphia Drivers Average Auto Accident Every Six Years

Car accidents are very common in the Philadelphia area, and a new report from Allstate suggests that poor driving skills could be partly to blame. According to Allstate’s “America’s Best Drivers Report” that was released late last month, Philadelphia drivers rank 188th out of 194 cities in the United States.

The report claims that drivers in Philadelphia get into car accidents an average of once every six years. Comparably, drivers in Phoenix, who were ranked as the safest among the country’s nine largest cities, were determined to get into an accident once every 9.8 years.

Although the report doesn’t exactly make Philadelphia drivers look good, Allstate said that it doesn’t want drivers in the city to be discouraged by the results. Instead, Allstate said it hopes the report encourages Philadelphia drivers “to make positive changes to their driving habits.”

For purposes of the report, Allstate defined an auto accident as any motor vehicle crash resulting in a property damage claim.

Because motor vehicle accidents are so common in Philadelphia, it’s important to know what to do should you be involved in one. Here is a short post-accident to-do list to keep in mind:

  • Seek emergency treatment for yourself or anyone else who was injured in the crash.
  • Take photos of the accident scene using your cellphone or a camera you have on hand.
  • Cooperate with police officers at the scene of the accident.
  • Contact a personal injury lawyer who can help you assess your potential sources of compensation.
  • Be wary of fact-finding investigations performed by insurance companies, who likely do not have your best interests in mind.
  • Focus on recovering from your injuries while your personal injury lawyer focuses on getting you the compensation you deserve.
