Often, tree trimmers know they are taking a risk to cut near any type of power lines and will be particularly careful when dealing with them. However, accidents do happen, and it appears that one such accident cost a worker his life.
A 42-year-old tree trimmer near Philadelphia was working when he struck a high voltage line beneath a Bridge over the Lehigh River and canal. He was on the Lehigh Canal towpath and was contracted to clear branches from power lines before a music festival. Apparently, the line, after it was struck, caused his truck to catch fire. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is now investigating the incident, along with local authorities, and it is believed that details regarding the exact cause will be available soon.
