Peco Worker Injured In Explosion

A PECO supervisor suffered significant burns on April 17 in an underground explosion in Pottstown, PA. The Delaware County Times reported that he was finishing installing new transformers when an electrical failure caused the explosion.

Work-related injuries and burns happen for many reasons. Some of these are poor maintenance of equipment; inadequate safety training; violation of OSHA regulations; defective products; and failure to provide protective equipment. Negligence in the workplace is a major cause of fires and explosions and victims may be eligible for compensation for their injuries.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 113 work fatalities in 2009 that were caused by fires or explosions. Pennsylvania reported five worker deaths from fires/explosions.

There are state and federal laws are in place regarding requirements for safety equipment; procedures for dealing with heavy objects, machinery or dangerous chemicals; and limitations on how long workers may go without a break. Employers must adhere to these rules and train their employees in proper safety etiquette.
