Elderly Pennsylvania Woman Charged In Pedestrian Death

A pedestrian accident in Montgomery County has left a 26-year-old woman dead and a 76-year-old woman facing charges after police say that the older woman hit the younger woman with her vehicle as she was walking and then left the scene.

The accident occurred on April 27 in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Montgomery County District Attorney charged the 76-year-old on Monday with involvement in an accident causing injury or death, and failure to stop and render aid.

Police said that the 26-year-old woman of Royersford, Pennsylvania, was walking along Township Line Road when she was hit by a car with such force that that her socks and shoes flew off and she was tossed to the side of the road.

Emergency responders tried to revive the woman, but to no avail. She died of multiple head and chest injuries at Pottstown Medical Center that afternoon, the county coroner said.

Authorities investigated the scene of the accident and determined that both the pedestrian and the car had been heading north on South Township Line Road when the accident occurred.

The 76-year-old has said that she didn’t realize that she hit anyone until she got home and noticed the damage to her 2003 Toyota Camry. She then reportedly called her son, who then reported to police that the woman may have been involved in an accident.

Police concluded that the damage to the Camry was consistent with the accident. A witness also reported seeing the car swerve toward the right before hitting the 26-year-old pedestrian, who was walking home from her job at Kohl’s, police said.
