New Jersey Man Dies In Tragic Motorcycle Accident

A 42-year-old man from Pemberton, NJ was killed in a motorcycle accident on April 6. NJ.com reported that he was thrown from the bike after he lost control and ran into a curb.

Motorcyclists are about 37 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a traffic crash. There were 5,290 motorcyclists killed and 96,000 motorcycles injured in 2008. Alcohol was a factor in many motorcycle crashes. A total of 30 percent of all fatally injured motorcycle riders had BAC levels of .08 g/dL or higher.

In New Jersey that year, there were 78 motorcycle riders killed and 227 riders killed in Pennsylvania.

Motorcycle accidents are caused by a number of things, including driver error, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, weather conditions, or a defective part. A rider who is not wearing a helmet may suffer a serious head injury.

The website www.drivesafepa.org offers safety tips for riders such as wearing a helmet and protective gear, conducting a safety check of your bike before riding, and practicing safe driving techniques like obeying the speed limit and driving sober.
