11 Year Old Killed In South Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident

Pedestrians make up the second-largest group of people killed in car accident fatalities. Oftentimes, these tragic accidents involve drivers who are drunk or impaired. Sadly, this appears to be the case in a recent pedestrian accident in South Philadelphia that claimed a young girl’s life.

An 11-year-old girl was walking out of a seafood restaurant with her stepmother and her stepbrother when she was struck and killed by a motor vehicle. The accident occurred around noon on Sunday when an SUV crashed into the entrance of the restaurant after being hit by an alleged drunk driver who ran a red light.

Police said after being struck by the alleged drunk driver, the SUV hit three people before hitting the entrance to the restaurant. The 11-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and her stepmother and stepbrother were rushed to a nearby hospital.

A 46-year-old employee of the restaurant was also injured in the accident and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV, who was not at fault in the crash, reportedly suffered a shoulder injury.

The accused drunk driver is a 28-year-old man of Miami, Florida. He was arrested and charged with homicide, homicide while driving under the influence, four counts of aggravated assault while driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.

“The family was enjoying a Sunday afternoon shopping and they lost a young lady as a result of someone else’s negligence,” said a chief inspector with the Philadelphia Police Department. The girl’s father said the entire family is now struggling to cope with the loss.
